William Licence[1] married Sarah Atkins 5 Feb 1869 at Lambeth, Middlesex. He ran Saracen's Head Inn at 1 Alfred Square in Deal, Kent from 1869 to 1896. Sarah died young, in 1888, and he remarried Caroline Marie Smith (nee Pearson).[2]
In loving memory of Sarah, the beloved wife of William License (sic) [correct spelling was Licence], who entered into rest July 12th, 1888, aged 47 years. "The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord." Job 1, 21. Bk IV, 96 Also of the above William License (sic) who entered into rest October 4th, 1902, a"ged 66 years. "Rest in Peace."
