Biography

James Davies Lightbody was born in 1882 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was the son of James K. Lightbody and Catherine Davies.^[1][2] He was a runner and went to the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis, Missouri. He competed in the 800 meter and 1500 meter dash and the 2590 meter Steeplechase and won gold in all 3 events. He also took part in the 4 mile team race and won a silver medal. He also went to the 1906 Summer Olympics (or Intercalated Games) in Athens, Greece. He won gold in the 1500 meter dash and silver in the 800 meter dash. James made his 3rd Olympic appearance at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London, England. He competed in the 800 and 1500 meter dash and the 3200 meter Steeplechase, but did not make it to the finals in any of the events.^[3]

James married Mabel Payne on November 8, 1913 in Rock Island County, Illinois.^[4]
