She married Richard Oulton, a shoemaker, on 19 September 1836 in St Peter's church, Chester, Cheshire. [2] The couple had 2 children in Thornton Le Moors, Cheshire, but her husband died in 1838 around the time their second child was born.

On 28 March 1842, when Margaret was about 22, she remarried; to William Garner, a widowed farmer, in Frodsham, Cheshire. Her husband was 15 years older than her. [4] The couple had 6 children together.
By 1851 the expanded family, which included 5 children, lived on Church Street in Frodsham. [5]
William died in 1856 and Margaret took over the running of the farm. In 1861, there were 6 children living were her in Church Street.
Margaret died in 1887 aged 67. Her death was registered in Runcorn. [6] She was buried in Frodsham on
