Charles and his family arrived in Nelson on the "Sir Allan McNab".

Charles married Annie Lewis in 1873.[4] They had a daughter, Annie Sarah, in 1875.[5] and a son, Charles Lewis, in 1877.[6] Annie passed away in 1878.[7]

In 1879, Charles married Martha Heallie.[8] They had a large family of 10 children:

  • Martha
  • Evelyn May
  • Ethel Elizabeth[9]
  • Alice[10]
  • Grace
  • Stephen John

Charles initially settled at Motueka with his parents, but later joined the Armed Constabulary, and was for a time stationed at Pirongia before transferring to the police force at Papakura. For many years he and his family farmed at Te Kowhai near Ngaruawahia.[15]

He passed away in 1935.[16][17][18]

Hi Fiona, I am the sponsor for Cambridgeshire as part of the England Project. As the Cambridgeshire category is a high level category, please could you review the County Category on this profile and replace it with a relevant place category, if possible. If there isn't a relevant place category, you might consider deleting the county category altogether. I will follow up in a couple of days and make the changes if you haven't had a chance. Feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss. Susie
