Surrey (historic flag)
James Litchfield was born in Surrey, England.

James Thomas Litchfield was born in 1867 in Newington, Surrey, England[1]. His parents were James Litchfield and Mary Ann Litchfield (nee Fewell).

At the 1871 Census[2], James lived on Blewett Street in St Mary Newington, Surrey, England with his parents James and Mary Ann, and his siblings Thomas and Mary Ann. The text on the image is somewhat hard to make out but James (snr.)'s occupation appeared to be 'envelope maker' and Mary Ann (snr.)'s was a '(?) machinist'. James (jnr.) was attending school. The family lived next door to Thomas Fewell and Ann Fewell, Mary Ann's brother and his wife.

At the 1881 Census[3], James, his parents, and his siblings Thomas, Mary Ann, Lottie, and Henry were lodging in the household of his aunt, Ann Fewell, on 3 Kingston Terrace, Newington, Surrey, England. His father was an envelope cutter, whilst Ann was a laundress. James and his brother Thomas were messengers, and their younger siblings were attending school. Also lodging in the household were George Evendon and Nelly Evendon, a general labourer and sack maker respectively.

James' mother, Mary Ann Litchfield, passed away in 1888[4].

At the 1891 Census[5], James resided on 38 Marcia Road, St George the Martyr Southwark, Surrey, England with his now widowed father and his siblings Thomas, Lottie, Henry, and George, as well as Thomas' wife, Minnie. James was a scullery man, and his father was an envelope cutter. His younger brothers were attending school. Thomas was a tea mixer and grocer.

James married Elizabeth Caroline Taylor on the 25th of December 1893 at St Bartholomew's in Camberwell, Surrey, England[6].

James passed away at the age of 30 in 1897 in Lambeth, Surrey, England[7].
