John was born in 1851. He passed away in 1932. John "Abe" Little is listed as head of household in the 1880 census of Greensport, St. Clair county after his father died in 1879. His mother and 7 siblings are listed in the same house. Several documents from family members state that Abe Little was strong in character and the Christian faith. He and his brother Jonas Lafayette Little seemed to have been very close as several pictures have been found showing them together and both are mentioned together in letters and family documents. Based on family recollection, Abe Little operated a ferry for a while on the Coosa River in the Greensport, St. Clair county area. Abe Little and his first wife, Mary McGriff Little, struggled with child birth having several newborns to die shortly after birth. Their only child to survive to adulthood was a son, Benjamin Franklin Little. Mary died at an early age in 1896 and Abe Little remarried a year later to Lela Harp. Abe and Lela had 6 children. Sometime prior to 1900, Abe Little moved his family across the Coosa River and into Etowah County as they are listed there in the 1900 census.
His obituary in the Gadsden Times stated "Pioneer Citizen Passes Away After Illness of Months: J. Abraham Little, 80, died at his home at Cedar Bend Monday night at 9:30 o'clock, following a long illness."
