DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:

Hi Charlotte

It's important to keep the Biography and Sources headings, and references tag, which I've added back for you. He's a tricky one - he must have married between 1835 and about 1845, I don't think his wife's name was Purkiss though.

Thank you, I'm not actually sure how to do that...

You just need to type two equals signs each side of the heading - if you look at it in edit mode, that's exactly what it should look like.

I think William was in barracks in Carlisle in the 1841 census, so probably married there as well. I haven't had any luck in tracking down who he married though!

Oh thank you that’s helpful! It’s difficult as I currently don’t have any ancestry site memberships so am relying on what I can interpret for free. This is mostly why I added info to WikiTree, so that more experienced genealogists may help. My ancestry tree has many many more cousins and sibling links, however the GEDCOM was too large to import, so this will be a painstaking process.

Thank you for all of your help Gill

You're welcome!

I can probably add more records from Ancestry and Findmypast if you like, or let me know if you want anything looked up.

Please do! I'm interested in any information on any ancestor, so knock yourself out if you fancy it haha!
