Biography

Samuel Littlefield was born 1688 probably in Maine.[1]He married Frances Unknown before 1713.[2]

Samuel and his wife Frances were both living in1722 in Wells Me. They sold in 1716-7, one-fourth of falls at Kennebunk, granted to his father, Edmund Littlefield, and Joseph Littlefield deeded by the towns of Wells and Cape Porpoise for building a saw mill.

At the northeastern end of the garrison, just before the gate, was the house of Samuel and Anthony Littlefield. It was built of logs, and was the same previously built and occupied by William Larrabee. In this entire structure, exclusive of the dwelling houses must have been used at least thirteen thousand cubic feet of timber. It was a, great work for the small number of men who were engaged in it. How long a time it was occupied in its erection, or when it was commenced, or when finishedis not known.

Samuel Littlefield was called Fat Sam". There were two Samuel Littlefields on the Kennebunk, Fat Sam" who ran the Mill, and Sam who rafted lumber. On deeds Fat Sam describes his land as land descended from my father Edmund and Uncle Samuel. He called himself "Samuel of Arundel", Yoeman.
