Arthur Loew, Jr. was a Hollywood producer and writer, with film credits including The Affairs of Dobie Gillis and Penelope.
Arthur was born 26 December 1925 in Manhattan, New York City.[1] He was the son of Arthur Loew and Mildred Zukor. His maternal grandfather was Adolph Zukor, president and founder of Paramount Pictures, while his paternal grandfather was Marcus Loew, the founder of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
On 26 October 1959, in Las Vegas,[2] Arthur was married to Deborah Minardos Power (Debbie Ann Smith) who had previously been the wife of actors Nico Minardos and Tyrone Power. Arthur adopted Deborah's child with Tyrone Power and they also had one son. They divorced 27 December 1963.
After the divorce, there was some controversy over the name of Tyrone Power Loew. "Anthur Loew, former stepfather of the late actor Tyrone Power's son, wants the 4-year-old boy, also named Tyrone Power, to keep "Loew" as his last name. Loew, a wealthy man-about-town, married Power's widow in 1959 and adopted her child, who was born after Power died in Spain. Last year the boy's mother divorced Loew and he now complains in Los Angeles Superior Court that she wants to drop his surname from little Tyrone Power Loew."[3] Arthur's ex-wife filed a suit to have the adoption annulled; however, after a ruling that the child must keep the Loew surname, the ex-wife dropped her suit to annul the adoption. "Child Must Use Adopted Name. Los Angeles (AP)--Tyrone Power Loew, 5, born nine weeks after the death of his father, Actor Tyrone Power, must continue to use his adopted father's surname. Superior Judge Ben Koenig denied an appeal by the children's mother, Mrs. Deborah Power Loew, to drop the surname, pending a hearing on her petition to invalidate the child's adoption by her now divorced husband, Arthur M. Loew Jr."[4] Within two weeks of this ruling, Deborah Power Loew dropped her suit.[5]
He was married to Regina Groves 10 September 1966 in Los Angeles, California.[6] Regina was an actress, known for Our Man Higgins, 1962; Get Smart, 1965; and My Brother the Angel, 1965. They were the parents of five children. Arthur and Regina were married until Arthur's death.
He passed away in 1995.
