Esmond Douglas Loft was born on 3 November, 1927 in Footscray, Victoria. He was the youngest child of Albert Loft and Eliza Maria Loft (nee Wilson). [1]. [2]
Known his whole life as Douglas, rather than Esmond, he was often referred to as just "Dougie".
He grew up in Footscray, then Maidstone, both inner suburbs of Melbourne.
He joined the Navy during World War II and was stationed for a period in Japan post-war. [2]
Upon returning to Australia he married Olive Robinson (1935- ?) on 5 October 1951. They lived in Berwick, near Dandenong outside of Melbourne, Victoria [3], where they had three children.
Douglas passed away on 18 September 1995. [1]
