Birth:

John was born in 1831 in Konigreich Hannover(Kingdom of Hanover), according to his gravestone.

Immigration:

According to the United States census of 1920, John immigrated in 1858 and was naturalized in 1865. [1] More specific sources for his immigration have not been found yet.

Life:

A few years after immigrating to the United States, John enlisted to serve in the Union Army as civil war broke out in his new home. The United States Census of Union Veterans and Widows of the Civil War (his address at this time is Pleasant Dale, Nebraska) says he enlisted on 13 June 1861 as a Private, Company C in the 28th Ohio Infantry. He was discharged 8 July 1864 because he was "wounded in right hand by bullet". He then re-enlisted as a Private, Company B in the 94th New York Infantry on 16 August 1864 until he was discharged 18 July 1865. [2] His gravestone displays a Grand Army of the Republic memorial.[3]
An Agricultural Census performed in 1885 places him in Lancaster County, Nebraska with a farm. He was growing Indian corn, oats, rye, and Irish potatoes. He owned cattle, horses, swine, poultry, and sheep. His farm produced 300 lbs of butter that year.[4]
There is a record for a marriage between John H Lohmier and Wilhelmina K. S. Prening on 15 January 1871 in Lancaster County, Nebraska.[5] While Wilhelmina's surname is spelled wrong, it is close. There is no image to look at, only the index. It is the right time and place.
The census of 1910 says John and Wilhelmina had been married 38 years and she was the mother of 9 children, 8 living. It is noted this is John's second marriage and Wilhelmina's first. Two daughters are living with them at this time, Minna S. (age 26) and Amelia S. (age 18). The next entry in the census is for the household of John A. Lohmeier, who is 30 years old at the time, married to Minna, with children Laura W and John H. [6]
In 1920, John is 88 years old, Wilhelmina is 70, and Minna is 37. In this census, John's household is living in the same dwelling as the household of August H. Lohmeier, age 40, who is married to Minnie, with children Laura, John, Laurense, and Earl. [7]

John Heinrich Lohmeier passed away on 30 January 1922.[8]
