Biography

Gottfried Loock (he didn't use his first name Martin) was most likely the son of tailor Christlieb Loock and his third wife Charlotte Bulow. They were the parents of Karl August Loock who shows up in the same records, having his children baptized in the same place and time frame as Gottfried. August gives the death information on one of Gottfried's young children and Gottfried is a witness to the baptism of one of August's daughters. Both Gottfried and August became master tailors. On the marriage record of Gottfried's son Julius August Johann Loock appears the following (*) "For the purpose of getting married today appeared the tailor Julius August Johann Loock, son of the master tailor Gottfried and his wife Wilhelmine Henriette Ziesemer."

Gottfried married at age 32 said Henrietta Wilhelmine Ziesemer, age 23 in December 1855. The later marriage for Gottfried could mean he took longer to establish as a master tailor or he was a widower. The witnesses for the baptism of their first child "Albert" Loock in 1857 favoured his wife's family, Carl Ziesemer, Gottfried Rohde. The Loock's were living in Pielburg, in the Pomerania section of Germany now belonging to Poland. Even if witnesses weren't family they became family. Johann Meyer of Pielburg was a witness to the birth of son two and son three "Reinhardt" Look. Reinhardt grew up to marry Johann's daughter, Wilhelmine Meyer. At some point many of the German families from this region emigrated to North America. Sons Albert and Reinhardt went to Arnprior, Renfrew, Ontario, Canada. Daughter Bertha went with her husband Carl Krueger to Texas. Gottfried's final child was born in December 1870. He died after this date.
