Biography

Pat was born in 1870 in Ballyglass, Carrowreagh near Kiltimagh, County Mayo. He was the son of Patrick Lydon and Honor Brennan, daughter of Patrick Brennan.

In January 1901 Pat married Mary Brennan, possibly a relative of his mother's. Mary's father was John Brennan of Brackloon, a nearby village. In the earliest years of their marriage, the young couple lived in the household of Pat's parents. The couple had five children in nine years, one of whom died as an infant.

Prior to the Ireland Census of 1911, Pat's father died, though when isn't certain as no death record has been located.

Sometime in 1910, following the birth of their fifth child, Mary was confined to the Swinford Workhouse, which had become a Catholic care facility, with pulmonary tuberculosis. She succumbed to the disease in February 1911 at the age of 40.

The 1911 Census of Ireland found Pat a widow, his widowed mother present in his home, along with four children aged one to nine years. He did not remarry. His mother lived until 1922.
