Biography

Robert Lytle Sr was born on 10 Nov 1778 in Juniata County, Pennsylvania, United States, son of Pvt John Lytle (~1755 - 1822) and Rachal (Kenney) Lytle (1757 - 1829).

His sister was Elizabeth Lytle (1782 - 1833).

Robert married Letitia McCullough (1779 - 1864) on 6 Jul 1802.

Their children were:

  1. Rachel Kenney Lytle (1803 - 1817)
  2. Sarah Lytle (1805 - 1882) d. Alexandria, Pa.
  3. John Lytle (1808 - 1876) Founded Lytle City, Iowa
  4. Robert Lytle Jr. (1812 - 1876) d. Holidaysburg, Pa.
  5. William G. Lytle (1815 - 1876) d. Utica, Ohio.
  6. James McKee Lytle (1820 - 1868) - (Inspector U.S govt)
  7. Charles Smith Lytle (1823 - 1876) - (Chief of Police and Vigilantes of San Francisco)

First resided at Cedar Springs, thence removed to Huntingdon, Robert was a miller and began to learn hide tanning. In 1820, he moved to Alexandria, engaging in the same businesses until 1841. After 1841, he moved to Hollidaysburg.

Robert died on 15 Aug 1847 in Hollidaysburg, Blair, Pennsylvania aged 68.
