Biography
He is the illegitimate son of Lachlan MacLean. From his father he received the tack of Mingary in Quinish, Mull. His nickname, Iain Gillda, or "foreign John" came from the fact that he was born in the Lowlands.
He was ambushed and killed at sea by the Maciains of Ardnamurchan. It is said his body was pierced by sixteen arrows.[1][2]
