Andrew Mackenzie worked at Bovril for many years and his wife Julia Manuel ran a boarding house, and she always kept a beautiful table according to my grandmother Elsie Stowers. By all accounts from the family, they said that Andrew was a lovely man and Julia was devoted to him.

Andrew's mother must have died young as not in the 1851 Census with his father Robert and brother George. They often rounded off the ages to the nearest five, Andrew moved to London from Scotland probably in his late teens. The original Census can be viewed on Scotland's people which gives you more information that the transcript.

Andrew was first married to Ann Bedborough and they had one son together whom died shortly after he married for a second time to Julia Manuel. Andrew and Julia are my second great grandparents. I cannot locate a birth registration on Scotland's people for Andrew, on his marriage certificate it states that his father was Robert, so we do not know whom his mother was. No DNA matches as yet to help clarify whom his father was married to.

Checked Scotlands People, no baptism or birth registration on there that matches up for Andrew from about 1838 through to 1842. There are too many gaps for their records before 1855 to piece together whom his mother or siblings were.
