Stephen Macy was born in 1781 to John Macy and Rhoda Gardner.[1][2] He married Mary Gardner, daughter of Eliab Gardner and Sarah Stanton.[1][3] The marriage was probably in 1803, as (1) Quaker records show that a Mary Macy, formerly Gardner, was disowned for marriage out of unity in early 1804[4] and (2) their first child was born in 1804.[5][6]
Stephen likely moved his family from North Carolina to Preble County, Ohio sometime between 1806 and 1812.[7] They are found in Preble County as of the census reports for 1820[8] and 1830.[9]
