John Maddock was born about 1590, most likely in or near Chester, Cheshire, England.
There were two men named John Maddock who were christening their children at the St John the Baptist church in Chester during the early 1600's. This John Maddock was a tanner. The other John Maddock was a baker. Records of these two men are often conflated by mistake. This particular John Maddock may have been a descendant of David Maddock, who was a tanner registered in the Freemen Rolls of Chester as early as 1557.[1]Link to Source Book
The first record of John Maddocke, the tanner, is in his apprenticeship to John Barnes of Chester, tanner, in the Freemen's Rolls of Chester, Cheshire, England.[2] This apprenticeship was registered on January 16, 1607/8. Link to Source Book
