Hannah Maddock was born in Dublin on 18 August 1696 to Quaker parents Hannah Fuller and Joseph Maddock.
[1]
Her father, a fairly wealthy linen draper, died on 21 March 1716. (See his profile.) He left Hannah and each of her sisters £450 when they married or reached the age of 21. (Hannah was 19 at the time.)
Two months after her father's death, Hannah Maddock gave testimony against herself, saying that she had received and encouraged proposals of marriage from Benjamin Jessop (1695-) knowing that he had not first informed her mother or overseers (meaning the overseers of her father's will).
[2]
Four months after her father's death, Hannah married Jacob Nixon, originally from Cumberland, in a Quaker ceremony.
[3]
The couple had at least three children, Mary (b 1717), Joseph (b 1718, d 1719) and John (b & d 1720).
[4]
Hannah died on 1 October 1723 and was buried in the Quaker burial ground in Cork St, Dublin.
