Biography

Joseph Malcolm Malenfant was born on 31 May 1837 and baptized on 8 Jun 1837 in the parish of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges (Trois-Pistoles), the son of Jean Baptiste Malenfant and Angelle Bouchard.^[1][2]

Malcolm married Julie Dufour, daughter of Etienne Dufour and Julie Leveque, on 25 Jul 1859 in Notre-Dame-des-Neiges.^[3][4]

In the 1861 census, Malcolm (age 22) lived in Témiscouata, Canada East (Quebec) with his wife Julie Dufour (46).^[5] They lived in the household of his father-in-law, Etienne Dufour. Malcolm worked as a day laborer.

Malcolm married for a second time to Eliza Gazé, widow of Theophile Leveque, on 31 Jul 1871.^[6][7]

Malcolm married for a third time to Louise Couturier, widow of Thomas Leveques on 2 Sep 1872 in Notre-Dame-des-Neiges.^[8][9]

Research Notes

Some Ancestry trees list his date of death as 1912 in Cheboygan, Michigan. There was a Joseph Malenfant who died there on 13 Sep 1912.^[10][11] His date of birth was given as Dec 1855, the son of John Malenfant. He was married and the informant was Jos. Malenfant Jr. of Cheboygan. Because the date of birth is so far off, it doesn't seem likely that the Joseph who died in Michigan is the same as Malcolm Malenfant born 1837. ~ Fremmerlid-1 16:01, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
