William B. "Woody" or "Woodley" Malone was born about 1839 in either Caswell County, NC (to parents Bennett and Nancy) or Person County, NC (to parents Robert and Arvilla).
Around the year 1860, Woody married Mary Ann "Polly" EVANS (once thought to be a CAMBRON) and began a family.
In 1862, he climbed on the family horse and rode with a friend to Calhoun, GA to join Capt. King's Battery (14th Battalion) in the CSA. He also served as a Georgia Light Artilleryman under Captain Harris' Battery.
During the war Woody contracted tuberculosis. He spent much of his service in the hospital. After the war ended, he returned home and worked the land as a farmer and had a few more children. A few years later Woody succumbed to his illness.
Woody died in either Cleburne, AL or Haralson, GA. It is believed he is buried in an unmarked grave at Camp Creek Church Cemetery (this information was provided by his greatgrandson, the late Curtis L. Malone)
