Biography
Pieter Marijs was born in 1746. He was the son of Abraham Marijs and Willemijntje Kapper. Pieter was baptized Dutch Reformed on 4 Sept 1746. The witnesses were Pieter Marijs and Leuntie Janse de Rijke, the parents of Abraham.[1]
Pieter married Neeltje Janse, presumably in 1767 given the birthyear 1768 of their first child. They have the following children on record:
- Willemina 1768, witn. the paternal grandparents Abraham Marijs and Willemina Kappers
- Salomon, bapt. 06-08-1769, witn. the maternal grandparents Salomon Jansse and Magdalena Lijnssen[2]
- Salomon bapt. 25-11-1770, witn. Salomon Jansse and Magdalena Lijnse[3].
- Abraham 1772, witn. Abraham Marijs and Willemina Cappers
- Abraham 1774, witn. Abraham Marijs and Willemina Casgiers
Research notes
The names of the witnesses of the children lead us to the parentage of Neeltje Janse. Their first child Willemina is named after the paternal mother. The next child Salomon, with witnesses Salomon Janse and Magdalena Lijnse, is therefore named after the maternal father, which is therefore Salomon Janse. Salomon Janse was married to Magdalena Lijnse Verstep. They are therefore the parents of Neeltje Janse.
