Biography
Leuntje Marijs was born on May 29, 1750. She was the daughter of Pieter Marijs and Maatje Kapper[1]. Leuntje was baptized Ducth Reformed on June 7, 1750. The baptism witnesses were Abraham Marijs and Pieternella Lammers.[2]
Research Notes
The baptism record names Willemijntje Kappers as the mother. This should be Maatje Kappers. Willemijntje Kappers was the wife of Abraham Marijs, one of the baptism witnesses, who had given birth to a daughter Leuntje about two months earlier (baptized April 19, 1750). Unless we want to assume a plot that involves witness Pieternella as the real mother, and Willemijntje taking the place as a fake mother, admitting to the impossible birth of another child two months after giving birth to the other Leuntje, we have to accept that the name Willemijntje is a mistake for Maatje.
The same name mistake occurs in the baptism record of brother Abraham, born January 2, 1753, but this time the name Maatje is written over Willemijntje.[3]
