"Elizabeth Martin was born on 30th May, 1845 at Wylies Flat, Singleton, the eighth child of William and Cordelia Martin. She married George Steel, a farmer from the Manning River, at her parents home at Kelvin Grove on 14th December, 1864 and it was here that their first child Annie, was born in 1865. A second daughter, Cordelia, was born in 1866 in the Manning River District. After moving to the Hastings River, George and Elizabeth (or Betsy as she was known in later years) had seven more children, and three more were born at Rawdon Island, near Wauchope. Altogether they had six sons and six daughters.
George and Betsy were share farmers and there is no record of them owing land. George died in 1902, aged sixty-eight, and Betsy died on 22nd December, 1916, aged seventy-one. She is buried in the Presbyterian section of the Port Macquarie General Cemetery." (From Winchelsea to Kelvin Grove: A Martin Family History 150 Years in Australia" 1838-1988, Pages 131 & 132)
