Will of John Martin dated 7/20/1747, Spotsylvania County Virginia Will Book A, p 498: In the name of God Amen I John Martin of Spottsylvania County being weak in body but of perfect sense and memory Blessed be Almighty God for it do appoint this to be my last will and testament Revoking all others. First I give my soul to almighty god who gave it me, my body to the earth from whence it was taken to be buried in Christianlike manner at the direction of my executors in hopes of a blessed resurrection through christ my Redeemer, and as for the rest of my worldly goods which God has been pleased to bless me with I give and bequeath in manner and form following. Item: I give and bequeath my negroes and all my movable estate to be equally divided between my loving wife Ann my son John and my daughter Ann. I also leave Benjamin Martin and William Oliver executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 2oth day of July in the year of our Lord 1747.
