Biography

Nellie (Massey) Wright was born in Lancashire, England.

Nellie was born about 1876, and her birth was registered in the Apr-May-Jun quarter of 1876 in the Chorlton district.^[1] She was the daughter of John Massey and Elizabeth (Cook) Massey, and was born on 17 April 1876 and baptised on 14 May 1876 in Hulme, St George, Lancashire, England. ^[2]

In 1891 Nellie 14, was living with her parents and sister Elizabeth, and working as an Errand Girl, in Hulme. ^[3]
On 24 December 1898 aged 22, she married Thomas James Wright 24, at Holy Trinity Church in Hulme, ^{[4] [5]} and in 1901 they were living in Moulton Street, Hulme. Thomas was a Shipping Warehouse Maker Up. They had two daughters Alice in 1903 and Hilda in 1907.

In the 1911 census Nellie 34, was working as a Washer and Cleaner, and living in Davyhulme, Urmston, Manchester, with their two daughters. Thomas was currently visiting his brother Frederick and family in Chorlton on Medlock. ^[6]

Thomas died before 1921 and Nellie 45, now a widow, was working as a Marker Off for R Scott & Co Limited Cotton Manufacturers, and living in Davyhulme Road, Davyhulme with her daughters, ^[7] and in 1939 she was 63, living alone and working as a Cleaner (Paid). ^[8]

Nellie Likely died in the late 1950s or early 1960s in her 80s. There are 3 different GRO records which would fit.
