Biography

US Black Heritage Project
Ive Massie is a part of US Black heritage.

Ive was a slave who was impressed by agents of the Confederate government to perform work on fortifications near Richmond, Virginia, from September 1862 to January 1863. During that time, Ive worked 60 days, for which his owner, Thomas Massie, received $16 per month. Ive appears on Payroll 71 for slaves impressed from Nelson County, Virginia.

The year of Ive's birth is estimated based on the thought that he was likely at least 15 years of age at the time of his impressment.
