George Nelson son of George Matcham and his wife, Catherine Nelson was born at Barton Hall, Norwich on 7 January 1789 [1] and was baptised at St Stephen on 2nd December. [2] He was educated at St John's College, Cambridge. George was in Portsmouth on 14 September 1805 to bid farewell to his famous uncle, Admiral Nelson, who sailed to deal with a combined Franco Spanish fleet. [3] In January 1806 he was included with his uncles and cousins in the procession of heralds and admirals that accompanied the body of Nelson in to St Paul's for his state funeral. [4]
He married Harriet Eyre at All Saints, Whiteparish on 20 February 1817. [5]
George died at Newhouse on 18 January 1877. [6][7]
