Abel Mather was born in Warrington, Lancashire, England.

Abel Henry Mather was born in 1846 [1] in Warrington, Lancashire, England, the son of James Mather and Hannah (Pimblett) Birchall.[2]

In 1851 Abel was living in the Brown Cow, Market Place, Warrington, with his parents and 2 siblings. His father was a victualler. [2]

His father died in 1857 and his mother remarried in 1859; to William Birchall.

In 1861 Abel was living in School Brow, Warrington with his mother, 4 siblings, his stepfather and half-sister. His stepfather was a saddler. [3]

On 21 September 1867, in St Elphin's church, Warrington, Abel married Martha Jane Gent, the daughter of William Gent, a waterman. Witnesses were Joseph Bellian and Jane Ratcliffe. [4] The couple had at least 5 children.

In 1891 Abel was living in Pinners Brow, Warrington with his wife and 4 children. He was a glass cutter. [5]
