Margaret Elizabeth[1] Burnie Mathieson. [2] Also Birnie, and Mayeit

Born in 1833 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland[3] to Thomas Matheson (1809 - 1862) and Mary Straith Matheson (1812 - 1841)[4] Her siblings included:

  • Christina Straith Matheson Bethel (1835 - 1921)[5]
  • Mary Matheson Camroux (1837 - 1905)[6]
  • Ellen Matheson Playfair (1839 - 1866)[7]
  • Georgina Hope Matheson Playfair (1849 - 1878) [half sister][8]

Married Edmund John Baily[9][10] on 13 July 1850 in St Andrews Scots Pres Church, Sydney, NSW. They had seven children:

Died on October 4th, 1918,[13] in "Llanarth", Burwood, Sydney, NSW, at the age of 86.[14]

Buried in St Jude's Cemetary, Randwick, Sydney, NSW.[15][16]

  • Gravestone states: In memory of Edward Strath Baily 24-6-1851 20-4-1886, Herbert Baily 10-8-1861 9-12-1926. Sacred to the memory of Edmund John Baily who departed this life 29th May 1862, aged 47 years, leaving a wife and six children to deplore their loss. Also Elizabeth Burnie, Widow of the above, died at "Llara" 4th October 1918, aged 86, "She loved so much" Footstone: E.J.B. 1862, M.B.B. 1918 (inscription taken from cemetery log)[17]
