This is my most frustrating dead-end. No one has been able to connect him to the rest of the Maxey family. Family legend says his parents were Native American (Cherokee or Creek), who were sent to Oklahoma on the Trail of Tears, but somehow wound up in the Arkansas Ozarks where they "adopted" the Maxey surname. I have absolutely no evidence to back this up. My DNA test didn't show any Native American ancestry, but I'm not sure if a regular DNA test would show something in my maternal grandmother's ancestry.
