James Alex Edmond May was born on 26 February 1917 in Lunenburg, Virginia, United States, son of James Hallard May and Sallie S Bridgforth.^[1]

He married Dora Beatrice Taylor on 28 December 1938 in Kenbridge, Virginia, United States. They later divorced on 4 Aug 1958 in Lunenburg County, Virginia, United States.^{[2] [3]}

He later married Etory Woodson on 31 December 1960 in Kenbridge, Virginia, United States.^[4]

He then married Mary E Unknown who he was still married to upon his death.

James died of a heart attack (age 68) on 28 February 1985 in Victoria, Lunenburg, Virginia, United States.^{[5] [6]}
