Alexander McAlpin was born in Greene, Tennessee, United States on 8 March 1815. He was the son of Henry McAlpin and Elizabeth Jane (Farnsworth) McAlpin.
He married Margaret Williams on 15 November 1838 in Johnson, Indiana.
Alexander passed away, at age 39, on 28 July 1854 in Glenwood Township, Mills, Iowa
