After finally getting a bead on the day and month of his death, I was able to send for a film to locate an obituary for Cooper F. McBride -
"' Dr. M'Bride Dead
Well Known Resident Passed Away Early on Tuesday Morning
Had Been Ill a Week
Proprietor of the Parlor Drug Store Since 1882 - Leaves Wife And Family'
Dr. Cooper Fenimore McBride, for the past 27 years proprietor of the Parlor drug store in East Federal street and a prominent and respected resident of this city, passed away at his home, 238 West Rayen avenue, Tuesday Morning at 3 o'clock. Death followed a week's illness with pneumonia. Cooper Fenimore McBride was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Struthers McBride, pioneer residents of this section, who migrated to Pennsylvania. Mr. Cooper McBride, father of the deceased, was for many years well known in Pennsylvania journalism. The deceased was born in Harrisburg, Pa., where his parents were temporarily residing, March 23, 1851. When he was quite young he went with his parents to the McBride family home in Butler, Pa., to live. He obtained his early education in the public schools of Butler, and later studied at the Witherspoon institute. When he left the institute the deceased entered the office of Dr. A. M. Neyman of Butler, where he spent several years preparing himself for the study of medicine, and later matriculated in the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia. He was graduated from that institution with the degree of Doctor of Medicine in the class of 1875. He began to practice his chosen profession in his home town shortly after his graduation, where he soon built up a large and successful practice. In 1877 he removed to Harrisville, Pa., where he formed a partnership with Dr. J. H. Elrick. The following year he took up his residence in Fairview where he remained until he came to Youngstown in 1882. Soon after locating in this city Dr. McBride opened up the Parlor drug store in East Federal street in which business he was interested at the time of his death. Dr. McBride was a charter member of the Westminster Presbyterian church but of late years he had been an attendant at the First Presbyterian church. He was also connected with a number of the medical societies of this city and state. In politics the deceased was like his father, a staunch Democrat. While he never had any political aspirations he always took an active interest in the councils of his party. The deceased was married to Miss Fannie E. Bovard of Manorville, Pa., May 26, 1876. To them were born three children, who, with the widow, survive, as follows. George Bovard, who is with the Tiffany company of New York; Frank Fenimore and Helen G. McBride, at home. The funeral will be held from the family residence, 238 West Rayen avenue, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be made in Oak Hill cemetery."
- Youngstown (Ohio) Vindicator, Tuesday evening, 13 April 1909, p. 3, c. 3
"' Dr. M'Bride's Funeral
Impressive But Simple Held On Thursday Afternoon - Interment in Oak Hill.'
Simple but impressive were the funeral services for the late Dr. Cooper Fenimore McBride from the family home in West Rayen avenue Thursday afternoon. A large concourse of relatives, friends, former associates and acquaintances assembled in the McBride home to pay a last tribute of respect to the memory of the deceased. Rev. Dice of Mt. Ary, Pa., who married Dr. and Mrs. McBride, preached the funeral sermon. Miss Edna Folby sang "Come Unto Me." The casket was hidden beneath a profusion of beautiful floral offerings. S. D. Carrier, C. A. Ensign, and Drs. W. E. Rans, Harry E. Welch, R. D. Gibson and S. B. McDougall acted as pallbearers, while the flowers were cared by Edward R. Derby and C. Potts. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery."
