Early records indicate that William and Catherine purchased property in Ghent, Ky on July 5 1852. This property was sold in August of 1855. They also purchased acreage in 1865, 1871 and 1878. Some of the property was sold to William McCreery. William McCreerys granddaughter, Antoinette McCreery would later marry William McBurney's grandson, Harry James McBurney. William McBurney was a Methodist belonging to the first Methodist Church that was known as Gilead and built in the southern part of Carroll Co., Ky. the Civil War caused the services at Gilead to cease and it was not until after his war that the Methodist Church known as Dean's Chapel and later consolidated at Worthville into Deans Memorial Church. In the beginning there were only 12 members, William McBurney was one of these. In 1881, Marvins Chapel Church was formed from portions of the old Gilead and Dean's Chapel churches, William returned to Marvin's Chapel when it reorganized. The children of William and Catherine McBurney were Thomas Jefferson (1835-1854), William Henry (1836-1840), James Andrew (1838-1839), William Oliver (1840- prior to 1922) James Henry, 1842-)Andrew Calvin( 1845-) Eleanora (1847-1859), Marcellus W. (1849-1922) and Eliza Francis (1851-1853). In 1882, William and his son Marcellus bought farm land in Carroll Co, what is now known as Stafford Ridge Road. Catherine and William, William T Beal and Mary Agness Searcy Beal are all believed to have been buried on this farm. The farm remains in the family.
