Biography

Christian F McCaskill. [1] Campbell. [2] McCaskill. Found multiple versions of name. Using Christian F McCaskill.

Born abt 1790. , Inverness-shire, , Scotland. [3][4] Her Birth date of 1750 is found in several ancestry.com trees. This probably started as a guess, based on a guess about her husband's birthdate, and got re-copied over and over. It seems doubtful, as 4 of her 7 children were born in 1816, 1819, 1824 and 1827....2 of the other 3 did not survive childhood and their dates are uncertain. The 4 mentioned above have gravestones giving the birth years, and are probably accurate dates. One remaining child, Jane Campbell, is said to have been born in 1824 on her gravestone but this is likely a mistake, 1828 or 1829 is more likely. I say this because She married Bennett Senterfitt who was born in 1827, and her children were born in 1850, 1851, 1853, 1854 1857 and 1863. It is unlikely that she married a man 3 years her junior, and did not begin child bearing until age 26 back in those days. Her sister Sallie Campbell was born in 1824 (by gravestone) and thus it is impossible for Jane to be born 3 weeks later in 1824, unless another mother was involved. Even stone cutters can make mistakes. Back to Christian McCaskill. If she had been born in 1750, then her first child born in 1816 would have been when she was 66..... not believable. And the one born in 1827 would have been born when Christian was 77. More likely, that Christian was born after 1790, had her firstborn in 1816 at age 26 or less. Her husband Peter C. Campbell is said to have been born in 1780. Much of this age speculation I think was started because Peter's father Daniel, who is said to have lived until age 118, likely fudged some dates, claiming to be born in 1725 according to the Pensacola Gazette story widely quoted from 1842, in which he claimed to be 117. If you look at the census records, Peter Campbell does claim to have a "male over age 100" living with him, but the corresponding female is "a female over age 70" and that is likely Daniel's wife Effie McLean who had not fudged her birthyear YET.
