Biography

Alexander was born in 1816.

Immigrated to the U.S.A. in 1823 with his parents. They settled in Webster, Mass upon their arrival.

Apprenticed as a shoemaker in Lynne, Mass. and later attended Hollistown(Holliston?) Academy, Mass.

In 1840 he moved to Morgan, Ashtabula County, Ohio and studied medicine under Dr. Omri Willey. Owing to delicate health he gave up on becoming a M.D. and started a boot and shoe business.

He met Sarah Sylphina Howard when he was operating his boot and shoe business. Sarah had moved to the area to live with her brother.

In 1880 he moved to Neodasha, Kansas where he resumed work as a druggist until 1892.

He was a devoted free mason and in his later years a member of the Methodist church.

--Claims with no detail from The McCauslands of DONAGHANIE and allied families-- He taught school at some point before 1840. He was postmaster of Rock Creek, Ohio for some years. He was president of the board of education of Rock Creek, Ohio. He gave up shoe business and engaged in agricultural pursuits for some period of time between 1840 and 1880.
