Son of Samuel McClendon (1775-1845) and Fanny Moorman (Dumas) McClendon (1780-1843).

Brother to William McClendon (1806-1871), Andrew Mooreman McClendon (1813-1898), Joel McClendon (1815-1858), Mary Ann (McClendon) Harris (1819-1904) and Frances (McClendon) Mauldin (1820-1892)

He married to Nancy (Crump) McClendon (1804-1858) on January 24, 1820. They had 13 children:

  3. Elizabeth N. (McClendon) Washburn (1825-1896),
  4. Mary (McClendon) Brothers (1826-1860),

On 14th July 1859 he remarried to Elizabeth B. (Reeves) McClendon. They had one son Anderson A. McClendon (1860-1936).
