Mrs. Porter was born in Albany about sixty three years ago, her maiden name being Sophie King Porter McHarg. She lived in this city, until her marriage to Gen. Porter In 1863 when they removed to Washington. After living there for some time they went to New York, where they made their home, until they went to Paris. Mrs. Porter has two surviving brothers, John W. McHarg, an insurance agent, living at 23 Elk Street, this city, and Henry K. McHarg, of Stamford Connecticut.
