William was a convict from Glasgow, convicted at Courts Martial, Glasgow for a term of 7 years on November 11, 1847. He departed Glasgow on January 1, 1850 on board the vessel, "Bangalore" and shipped to Moreton Bay, Australia, together with 297 other convicts. From New South Wales, Australia, Tickets of Leave, 1810-1869 for William Macillhatton, Ticket of leave butts (NRS 12202) Ticket of leave butts, Dec 1849-Sep 1851 however Ancestry has him born in Ireland, but there are no sources to prove this.
