Biography

William was born in 1876 in Gourock, Renfrewshire, Scotland. He was the son of John McLeod and Ann Lyall^[1]

At the age of 4, he was living with his parents in Tongue, Sutherland in 1881. His father was a coastguard.^[2]

The McLeod family were living at 131 McLean Street, Govan, Glasgow in 1891. William was an apprentice engine fitter. He now had a brother and sister, John (9) and Mary Ann (6), who had both been born in Portsoy, Banffshire.^[3]

By 1911, William was employed as an inspecting engineer and living at 18 Parliament Road, Middlesbrough, England with his wife, Margaret.^[4]
