John Williams McNair was born on October 31, 1825, in Knoxville, Tennessee, his father, Col, was 41 and his mother, Mary, was 22. He married Elizabeth before 1850. He then married Median Elizabeth Johnson on October 22, 1856, in Searcy, Arkansas, and they had eight children together. He died on June 17, 1901, in Arkansas having lived a long life of 75 years, and was buried in Camp, Arkansas.[1]

John was of Fulton County, Missouri. He was a soldier in both the Mexican and Civil Wars.
