Alexander was born about 1687. Alexander was the twin brother of Finley McVean.

The "Descendant's of Donald McVean . . ." is considered an essential resource of early Scottish-American family genealogy in New York State. Note: A copy of the book is located at the LDS Family History Center, Salt Lake City, Utah. The original type written book was left unfinished by its author Albert Francis McVean (1898-1976) of Le Roy, New York. Albert McVean was a former president of the Le Roy, New York Historical Society. Albert's book contains no source references. The book was later transcribed into web format and posted online by Bobbie Verstraete, a McVean family descendant. [2]
