Robert was born on 2 August 1921.[1] He was the son of William McWilliams and Margarette Simms.[2] Robert attended the University of Michigan, graduating in 1945 and earning a PhD in 1952.[3] As an undergraduate, he became a member of Phi Beta Kappa. [4]On 10 October 1947 Robert married Kathryn Marie Yount in Ann Arbor.[5] Robert was on the Political Science Faculty at Eastern Michigan University from 1956 until he retired in 1986.[3] His speciality was public opinion, and he was a member of the American Political Science Association for over 50 years.[6] He died on 20 February 2011 in Washtenaw County, Michigan.[1] After his death his wife established the Robert O. McWilliams Memorial Scholarship at Eastern Michigan.[3]
