John Meadows was a Tennessean, born in Jackson County.
John Walker Meadows was born on 10 Jun 1882 in Jackson County, Tennessee, the son of Robert Henry "Milton" Meadows and Josie Young. John was named after his paternal grandfather. He was known by everyone as Johnnie. He had six siblings.
In 1900 Johnnie and his siblings were farm laborers.
Johnnie married Ida McCoin 18 Oct 1908 in Jackson County, TN. In 1910 two brothers, one sister and her husband, and a nephew were living with John and his wife Ida. Johnnie had become a farmer and Ida kept house. Two of his brothers worked on steamboats and his brother-in-law was also a farmer.
By 1920, Johnnie and Ida had four children together. By 1930, Johnnie's son Joseph "Joe" Meadows had married and lived next door to John. And by 1940, Johnnie's and Ida's children had moved out of the nest and trying to have families off their own.
(On a side note, Joe was Johnnie's only son. In turn, my father [Meadows-3722|John Marion Meadows]] was Joe's only son. And my brother is my father's only son.)
Johnnie favored his grandson John, and spoiled him to no end. My father said when he would get in trouble with his mother, he could always run to his grandpa to save him!
In 1950, Johnnie and Ida had rejected their youngest daughter's suitor, and she was again living within their home, to take care of her aging parents as was the custom at that time.
Johnnie passed away 8 Jan 1952 of a stroke at the age of 70 in Gainesboro, Jackson County, TN. He was buried on 10 Jan 1952 in Draper Memorial Cemetery in Gainesboro, Jackson County, Tennessee. He had lived his entire life in Jackson County.
