Biography

Joseph Meiser was born on 12 Nov 1827,^[1] the son of Friederich and Margaret Meiser. He was baptized 30 Mar 1828 at the Botschaft Lutheran and Reformed Church, Chapman Township, Snyder, Pennsylvania by Rev Jacob Schmidt.^[2]

Joseph married twice. First, he married Hannah Shadle on 10 June 1851. She passed away in 1869. Joseph and Hannah had seven children:.^[3]

His second wife was Rebecca Hummel, born on 5 June 1842. They were married soon after Hannah's death. Rebecca and Joseph had six children:

In the summer of 1870, Joseph published the following public announcement of his intention to run for Snyder County Commissioner on the Democratic ticket in The Selinsgrove (Pennsylvania) Times-Tribune:

"Editor Times.—At the solicitation of many of my friends in this part of the county, I have consented to become a candidate for the nomination for the office of County Commissioner; and should the democratic county convention see proper to put me forward as a choice of the party, I shall, in case of election, endeavor to discharge the duties of said office in a manner that will prove satisfactory to the public."

In 1880, the family was living in Chapman Township, Snyder County, Pennsylvania. The household consisted of Joseph Meiser, 53; Rebecca Meiser, 38; Thomas Meiser, 20; Reuben Meiser, 18; David Meiser, 14; Alice Meiser; 8; Maria Meiser, 6; Albert Meiser, 4. Philip Bitting, a 35 year old saddler, was a boarder with the family. All were born in Pennsylvania, as were their parents.^[5]

Joseph passed away on 27 Sept 1896 and is buried at the Grubbs Church Cemetery, Snyder County, Pennsylvania.^{[1] [6]}
