Biography

James Midson was born about 1818 at Prittlewell, Essex (from Census records), the son of James Midson, a labourer (from his marriage record).

We have yet to find James in the 1841 Census.

James Midson, a tile maker age ~25, and Charlotte Eliza Partridge, age ~24, married on 2nd July 1843 at St Mary Magdalene Church, Woolwich, London, Kent. She signed the marriage register with 'X'. Both their fathers were named on the register. The witnesses were James and Elizabeth Groves, who were Charlotte Eliza's brother-in-law and sister. James and Charlotte Eliza were born only a few miles apart in villages near Southend-on Sea, Essex, so it is quite likely that knew one another before moving to London.

James' wife Charlotte Eliza sometimes went by her middle name.

James and Charlotte Eliza went on to have four children: Eliza Jane 1844, George William 1846, Charlotte Rebecca, 1848, and James Alfred ~1850.

In 1851 James, a tile maker age 34, and Eliza, age 34, were living in Lewisham Road, Deptford, London, Kent, with their children Eliza, a scholar age 7, George, a scholar age 5, Charlotte, age 3, and James, age 4 months.

In 1861 James, a labourer in a chemical works age 43, and Charlotte, a laundress age 42, were living at 3 Summer Street , Deptford, London, Kent, with their children George, an engine smith's labourer age 15, Charlotte, a scholar age 13, and James, a scholar age 10.

In 1871 James, a bricklayer's labourer age 53, and Charlotte E, age 52, were still living at 3 Summer Street , Deptford, London, Kent.

In 1881 James, a general labourer age 63, and Charlotte E, age 62, were still living at 3 Summer Street , Deptford, London, Kent. Boarding with them was Harry Turnbull, a gas fitter age 19.

In 1891 James, a labourer age 73, and Charlotte, a laundress age 72, were still living at 3 Summer Street , Deptford, London, Kent.

James' wife Charlotte Eliza's death, age 73, was registered Jan-Mar 1892 at Greenwich, London, Kent.

James' death, age 75, was registered Apr-Jun 1892 at Camberwell, London, Surrey.
