Claude Everard was born in 1902. He was the son of Walter Millard and Frances Willson. [1] He never married
Claude Millard (service number 16168 ) served in the NZ army during World War 2. A labourer in civilian life , address c/o if Mr. A.P. Satherly, in Seddon he gave his next of kin as Mr. Leonard Millard (brother) of Riverlands, Blenheim . He was a Private in the Infantry Reinforcements, of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force, Third Echelon [2] He was taken as a Prisoner of War 29 April 1941 and held at Salonike, Greece and VIII-B Lamsdorf, in Germany. [3] Private Claude Millard (POW serial number 40579 ) was a prisioner of war in German hands, present in a camp in Corinthe according to list recieved on 19.6.1941; Present in Stalag 306 XV111D from a capture card dated 7.10.1941; and Tranferred to Stalag XV111B from Stalag XV111D on 31.7.1942. [4] Lamsdorf was the starting point of the infamous March of Death towards the end of the war . A niece states: "It affected him and he lived with with his brothers and sisters mostly with uncle Len after the war and I remember him -- he was a shell of a man" [5]
He passed away in 1989 [6]
