Mary Irene Miller was born on 25 Nov 1922 in Dysart, Tama County, Iowa, to William Lafayette (Lafe) Miller (1894–1966) and Marie C Peterson (1898–1965). She was the third of their four children, and grew up in Dysart. The Miller family moved to Glendale, Arizona, between 1935 and 1940.[1][2][3]
Irene married Lowell Richard "Dick" Witter (1921–2000) on 5 Jan 1946 in Maricopa County, Arizona. Dick was a veteran of the Second World War, and worked as a Glendale police officer before, eventually, working his way up to serve as the City Magistrate in Glendale. Irene had a long career as a city clerk. They raised their son in Glendale.[4][5][6]
Irene died on 22 Dec 1996 in Glendale. Her obituary appeared in the Arizona Republic on 25 Dec 1996.[7]"Mary Irene Witter, 74, of Glendale, a city clerk, died Dec. 22, 1996. She was born in Dysart, Iowa. Survivors include her husband, Lowell R.; son, Patrick L; sisters, Margaret Gilbert and Joyce Brown; brother, William H. Miller; and two grandchildren. Services: 2 p.m. Friday, First United Methodist Church of Glendale. 7102 N. 58th Drive. Glendale, AZ 85301. Contributions: to the church, in care of the choir. Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, Glendale."
