In the 1850 census, Miles T. Callahan was living in Marion County, Alabama, in household 185. ^[2]He is listed at age 53 and born in NC. In the household is his wife, listed as Disa, and six children. What is interesting are the families listed in households 187 and 188. In 187 is J. E. Callahan and his wife Jane. J. E. would be Miles' son James Eldridge, who is listed at age 27 and born in TN. 188 is the household of Edmond Bullard, his wife Matilda and five children. Matilda is listed with an age of 28 and born in TN.

In the 1860 census, Miles is living in Yalobusha County, MS, with his wife Dicy and three children.^[3] Two of the children have the surname of Bullard, indicating Miles and Dicy are assisting their son-in-law in raising their grandchildren since daughter Matilda died prior to 1860. Edmond Bullard is living Chickasaw County, MS, with his other children but with no wife.
